Firearm Forum Question: Can a Shotgun Barrel Chamber Be Bored Out

Ask A Firearms Question:
Simply, can a shotgun chamber be bored out to accept a longer shotgun shell, i.e. from 2 3/4-Inch to 3 1/2-Inch Magnum?
Thank you Chef Newberger.

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
NO

See explanation below ...

Both Shotguns and Rifles are chambered in certain size and caliber ammo; or shotgun shells for a reason.
The pressure and blowback gases are extreme when a round goes off.
This is why the metal at the chamber (bore) is thicker than the metal at the end of barrel.

For more on Shotgun Pressure ...
Issued as a Guideline from GunDigest:
SAAMI has organized U.S. Gun Manufacturers to adhere to a set of standards for service pressure, and all modern models of guns made in the US are proofed or tested to make sure they withstand these pressures.
Service pressure is predicated on the diameter of the bore (its gauge) and the length of the chamber (in inches).
More information is available on GunDigest website at -

See pictures below ....

Commentary -
Some barrels are interchangeable but this is not the same as modifying an existing barrel. Also there are aftermarket barrels that may accommodate the shooters needs.

==> My recommendation is -
Do not modify a barrel by drilling out the bore size to accommodate a different size round or length of shell.

Firearm Forum Question: G2 Research 45 ACP, R.I.P. Ammunition Recall

Ask A Firearms Question:
At the gun range the other day when a discussion came up about RIP 45 acp ammo and Glocks. What is going on?
Thank you I Carry A Gun.

G2 Research Inc, 45 ACP R.I.P. Ammo ....

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
Yes this Ammunition (ammo) is on immediate Limited Recall.
R.I.P. 45 acp in manufactured by G2 Research Inc. and apparently has issues when shot through any Glock 45 acp caliber handgun.
See photos above.

This RECALL was issued by G2 on December 3, 2014 as a post on their Facebook Page. The ammo in question from G2 Research was manufactured between July 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014. If you have any G2 Ammo in 45acp check the dates on the inside of the ammo box. G2 Research is marketing this as a Limited Recall because G2 claims it only affects Glocks in 45 ACP Caliber.
This Ammo Recall for G2 Research, R.I.P. 45 ACP Ammunition could cause 'Excessive Chamber Pressure' in all Glocks manufactured for 45 acp caliber.
Non Legalize this simply means that if you shoot this 45 ACP Caliber Ammo in any Glock your gun could go Kaboom (blow up in your face).

If you have any of this ammo you can call G2 Research in the USA at -

Email G2 Research at -

Commentary -
A Glock Handgun is one of the finest most durable handguns made in the world today. Glocks are carried by Law Enforcement and Military around the world. For any ammo to affect a Glock is a sure warning NOT to purchase from that manufacturer. It is always better to err on the side of caution.
Further G2 has shown arrogance in issuing this Recall Notice on Facebook. They assume every gun owner has a Facebook Page, and that is not only arrogant it is out right poor judgement.
==> My recommendation on ALL G2 Research Ammo is -
a NO BUY.

Firearm Forum Question: What Does it Mean When a Firearm Discharges Out-of-Battery

Ask A Firearms Question:
What Does it Mean When a Gun Discharges Out of Battery?
Thank you The Patriot Train.

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
This is when a Firearm discharges (fires) when the slide or bolt is not fully closed. This can result in the firearm exploding sending shrapnel flying everywhere injuring or killing the user (shooter), and any bystanders to close.
See photos below ....

Firearm Forum Question: Shooting Aluminum Cased Ammo

Ask A Firearms Question:
Any insight into shooting Aluminum Cased Ammo? I have seen a lot of this lately for very good prices at Wal-Mart.
Thank you, The Joker Man.

Here are some boxes of my personal Aluminum Cased Ammo in 9mm and 45acp that I bought at Walmart ....

Answer:
Blog Administrator -
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Aluminum cased ammunition (ammo). I shoot it myself. I frequently buy 9mm and 45acp at Walmart.

The downside to Aluminum Ammo is it should not be reloaded.

Aluminum Cased Ammo, however, makes for great inexpensive Target Shooting.

Helpful Hint: I highlight my Aluminum Cased Ammo so I don't mixed it up with my reload empty cases, see pictures above.

Firearm Forum Question: Beretta Folding Shotgun

Ask A Firearms Question:
Recently acquired a Beretta 12-Gauge Folding Shotgun, what can you tell me about it?
Thank you Gin Lee.

These shotguns are no longer made. Some consider them a collectible, others like them because they fold and can be put into a large bugout bag.

They are called the 'Beretta Folding Shotgun', but in fact Beretta manufactured them for a third party to meet U.S. requirements for weapons sold in the USA.
I recently contacted Beretta about this shotgun and was told they have no information, no specs, and no record for the serial numbers. The reason stated was this was made by Beretta in Italy before Beretta USA was established. The only thing Beretta could tell me was the shotgun was manufactured prior to 1970.

My Beretta Folding 12-Gauge Shotgun .....

Note: The current 2014/2015 Value of one of these shotguns in NRA Excellent Condition is about $450.00

Answer:
Blog Administrator -
I actually own one of these myself. See target test firing below with my Beretta Folding 12-Gauge Shotgun.

I purchased mine used many years ago at a Gun Show.

These do not have a recoil pad. The design is the old style steel and wood. They have quite a recoil when fired so I would not recommend one of these to a youth shooter or woman.

Test Firing my Folding Beretta 12-Gauge Shotgun at an Indoor Range using Military Grade Number 00 Buckshot ....
I Rate these Shotguns as a .... Novelty or Collectible, there are better choices for purchase, but they are still a very well made shotgun.
