Firearm Forum Question: G2 Research 45 ACP, R.I.P. Ammunition Recall

Ask A Firearms Question:
At the gun range the other day when a discussion came up about RIP 45 acp ammo and Glocks. What is going on?
Thank you I Carry A Gun.

G2 Research Inc, 45 ACP R.I.P. Ammo ....

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
Yes this Ammunition (ammo) is on immediate Limited Recall.
R.I.P. 45 acp in manufactured by G2 Research Inc. and apparently has issues when shot through any Glock 45 acp caliber handgun.
See photos above.

This RECALL was issued by G2 on December 3, 2014 as a post on their Facebook Page. The ammo in question from G2 Research was manufactured between July 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014. If you have any G2 Ammo in 45acp check the dates on the inside of the ammo box. G2 Research is marketing this as a Limited Recall because G2 claims it only affects Glocks in 45 ACP Caliber.
This Ammo Recall for G2 Research, R.I.P. 45 ACP Ammunition could cause 'Excessive Chamber Pressure' in all Glocks manufactured for 45 acp caliber.
Non Legalize this simply means that if you shoot this 45 ACP Caliber Ammo in any Glock your gun could go Kaboom (blow up in your face).

Commentary -
A Glock Handgun is one of the finest most durable handguns made in the world today. Glocks are carried by Law Enforcement and Military around the world. For any ammo to affect a Glock is a sure warning NOT to purchase from that manufacturer. It is always better to err on the side of caution.
Further G2 has shown arrogance in issuing this Recall Notice on Facebook. They assume every gun owner has a Facebook Page, and that is not only arrogant it is out right poor judgement.
==> My recommendation on ALL G2 Research Ammo is -
a NO BUY.

Firearm Forum Question: Testing and Review of the Kahr CW40 Handgun

Ask A Firearms Question:
I am having feeding issues with my CW40 S&W as others are. How big of an issue is this?
Thank you @baldeguy56 (Twitter).
Firearms Guy Note: The CW40 S&W is manufactured by Kahr Firearms, USA.

The Kahr CW40 S&W, 40 Caliber Semi Auto Handgun:
The following was Tested and Reviewed .....

40 Caliber Hollow Point Ammo Tested ....
40 Caliber FMJ Ammo Tested ....

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
Yes, the Kahr CW40 has feed issues.
This is caused by either the Slide Stop Spring or Mag Follower. This is posted on the Kahr Website under FAQs, see below for Link.
The Kahr CW40 handgun shown above was tested after the upgrades.
Kahr will send you the replacement parts free of charge with instructions for installation.
The upgrades were installed by a licensed gunsmith here in Arizona.
The weapon was thoroughly cleaned and lubricated prior to testing.

The following is the TEST Results and Review of the Kahr Model CW40 S&W Handgun:

Test Criteria -
1) The Kahr CW40 was Tested using the original magazine, and a new Kahr magazine.
2) Federal, Remington, and Winchester Hollow Point ammo was used for the test.
3) American Eagle and Blazer FMJ ammo were also used for the test.
4) The magazines were checked for spring tension and burrs.
5) The handgun was cleaned and lubricated prior to testing.
6) The Test was performed on a handgun after the upgrades.
7) Finally the Kahr 40 Caliber handgun was compared to a Glock 45acp handgun for accuracy and grouping pattern.

Test Results Firing the Kahr Model CW40 S&W Handgun -
1) The Test was conducted in a controlled environment at an Indoor Gun Range.
2) All the Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) Ammo fired worked on both magazines without feed (jamming) issues.
3) When testing the Hollow Point Ammo, Winchester jammed on the last 2-rounds with the old original magazine.
4) Accuracy Test was conducted at 25 Feet and 35 Feet respectively with all the ammo variants using 8-rounds per magazine. Three different individuals test fired the weapon with approximately the same results. The grouping at 35-feet was unacceptable.
5) A total of 240 out of 250 rounds of 40 Caliber Ammo from various manufacturers were test fired from five separate boxes of ammo containing 50-round boxes.
6) The last 10-rounds were rapid fired at 15-feet by one shooter using the new magazine.

Comparison Test: Kahr CW40 (40 Caliber) versus the Glock Gen 3, Model 30, 45acp.
24 rounds of Federal FMJ 45acp were fired in the Glock 30 at 35-feet by three different shooters using 8-rounds each. The Glock out performed the Kahr for grouping accuracy.

Commentary -
The suggested retail price is $449.00 for the Kahr CW40 S&W 40 Caliber Handgun. Kahr has failed to Recall this defective Weapon, or at minimum issue a Product Warning Notice. For a competitive price the shooter can purchase a Glock, which after testing of this Kahr model proves to be superior. Gun Owners deserve better from Firearms Manufacturers that put profit above safety. This is the second issue with Kahr Handguns posted as topics at the Firearms Forum Site this month.
==> My recommendation on the Kahr CW40 S&W Handgun is -
a NO BUY.

Firearm Forum Question: Glock Issued Gen Model History

Ask A Firearms Question:
Can you detail the Glock Gen Model History, specifically when the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Started?
Thank you My-Left-Leg.

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
Glock has a unique history.
See below for details:
The firearm, mainly handguns are manufactured in Austria.
Glock wanted to stay consistent in its handgun production so improvements and upgrades were called 'Generations' - Gen.
There have been 4 Generations of Glock so far.
Gen 1; Gen 2; Gen 3; and the latest Gen 4.
Gen 3's were extremely popular worldwide and are used by various law enforcement and military.
Gen 1 Glocks are just now becoming somewhat of a collectors item.

I personally own a Gen 3, Model 30 (45 acp compact).

Glock Approximate Timeline Dates:
Gen 1 - 1982 Introduction
Gen 1 - 1984, Introduction to the USA Market
Gen 2 - 1988 Introduction
Gen 2 - 1991, Upgraded to meet ATF Standards
Gen 3 - 1998 Introduction
Gen 3 - Upgrades and New Models continued through 2008
Gen 4 - 2010 Introduction

Glock Generation Models: 1, 2, 3, 4 can be mostly distinguished by there Factory issued Pistol Grips.

Glock has issued a Timeline History.

Firearm Forum Question: Glock Voluntary Recall of Gen 4 Models 26, 27

I recently purchased a Baby Glock Gen 4, Model 26, 9mm and have been told there is a Recall on this handgun. What information do you?
Thank you Ben Coopersmith.

Baby Glock Model 26, Gen 4, 9mm Handgun ....

Glock Model 27, Gen 4, 40 Caliber Handgun ....

Answer :
Blog Administrator -
There is a Voluntary RECALL Notice out on Glock Models 26 and 27, Gen 4.
This Recall Notice addresses a problem with the RSA (Recoil Spring Assembly).
This only affects Glock 26 and 27 Gen 4 models sold before July 22, 2011.

Note: Photos above from Glock's website.

If you have any questions about which model or time frame (dates) manufactured call Glock in the USA at:

Firearm Forum Question: Disassembly, Cleaning, Reassembly and Test Firing of the Kel-Tec Sub 2000

Ask A Firearms Question:
Can you do a Topic Post on the Kel Tec Sub-2000 Semi Auto Assault Rifle ?
Thank you Donald Zades.

Kel Tec Sub 2000, photo from Kel Tec's Website:
Comes in both 9mm and 40 Caliber S&W ....

Answer:
Blog Administrator -
The Kel Tec Sub 2000 is essentially an answer and competitor of the Hi-Point.
The advantages to this firearm is it will accept Glock 9mm and 40 Caliber Magazines. It will accept some S&W, Beretta, and Sig Magazines in 9mm and 40 Cal. The Kel Tec also has a folding stock for easy carry.
The clear disadvantage it is not offered in the 45 ACP.
I have never owned the Kel Tec but have shot one. I did at one time own the Hi-Pont 9mm fully outfitted. In my opinion the Hi-Point 9mm is a better choice. If I were to purchase one again it would be the Hi-Pont in 45acp.

Firearm Forum Question: What Causes Semi Auto Handguns to Jam

Ask A Firearms Question:
Why does my Taurus 9mm Semi Auto Handgun Jam?
Thank you Jennifer.

Below are some manufacturers of Semi Auto Handguns, most manufactures make a variety of calibers, these all share the same general issues. Many believe the 9mm is more subject to jamming than other calibers, but I have not found that to be true with the 3 brands of 9mm I own - Glock; Browning; and Beretta.

9mm Handguns by Manufacturer:
Taurus ....
Beretta ....
 Browning Hi-Power ....
 Chiappa ....
Colt ....

 CZ 85 ....
 Glock ....
H & K ....

 Hi-Point ....
 Kel-Tec ....
 Kimber ....
 Rossi ....
 Ruger ....
 S&W ....
 Sig Sauer ....
Springfield Armory ....

Various Types of Ammo (ammunition) for 9mm Semi Auto Handguns. Most of these types are available in all the common calibers except 22:

FMJ (full metal jacket) ...
 Hollow Point ...
Round Soft Nose ...
Flat Nose ...
Wolf Steel Case, Lacquered Coated, Berden Primed ...
Hydra-Shock ...
+P ...
Sub-Sonic (for use with Suppressor / Silencer) ...
Tracers ...
Bird Shot ...
Bullet Chart for 9mm Ammo .....

Answer:
Blog Administrator -
Included in this Topic Post, found above, are the typical firearm manufacturers of the most common caliber semi auto handguns along with various types of ammo for most large center fire handguns including the 9mm.

Jamming problems can exist with any manufacturer of a firearm, any ammo manufacturer, or any caliber.

One typical mistake gun owners make is when they buy a NEW firearm they think it is out of the box ready to shoot. This is not true. The firearm, especially a semi-auto handgun should be stripped down for cleaning, thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and well lubricated before shooting it for the first time. Make sure the slide is operating smoothly and the magazine spring is not hanging up (sticking).

Jamming Problems can be caused by a variety of things including a combination of items.

The most common causes of Jamming are:
1) The firearm is dirty.
2) The firearm is not well lubricated.
3) The ammo (ammunition) being used, i.e. FMJ, FN, RN, HP, etc. Some types of ammo do not feed well in some firearms.
4) The Brand of Ammo being used, i.e. Federal, Remington, Winchester, PMC, Wolf, etc. It is very important to note that ammo brands shoot differently in almost every gun, and semi auto handguns are no different.
5) After Market, 3rd Party Barrels such as Lone Wolf Threaded Extended Barrels. If this is the cause call Lone Wolf, return the barrel they can generally hone, buff, or file the barrel so it will not jam.
6) The Magazine. People tend to max out a magazine capacity. If a magazine will hold 10-rounds, I recommend only putting in 8 or 9 rounds. This reduces the stress on the magazine spring allowing for smoother feed action.
7) Magazine Loading. Believe it or not when loading a magazine the ammo often times does not line up properly, so after loading tap the magazine with the bullet facing up to make sure all the ammo in the mag is aligned for proper feeding. Often times using a speed loader will help but you should still always tap the magazine. See my Homemade Video below:

8) The Magazine may be very dirty or the magazine spring is old and cannot feed the rounds correctly.
9) After Market, 3rd Party Magazines. Some of these are just junk. You get what you pay for. Many of these are notorious for causing jamming.
10) Modified Firearms, such as a trigger pull, after market triggers and spring assemblies.
11) After Market, 3rd Party Caliber modifications, i.e. using your center fire caliber semi auto handgun to shoot rim fire 22 caliber ammo. Generally this involves replacing the entire slide and using only the frame and grip.
12) Reloads (reloaded ammo). Even the best reloaders have problems on occasion.
13) Mil Spec or Foreign made ammo such as Berden Primed Lacquered Coated Rounds. The lacquer heats up causing jamming.
14) Old or Corrosive Ammo.
15) Your firearm is rusty or corroted (this can be dangerous to shoot).
16) Your weapon is wet (if so, field strip it and clean).
17) Extreme cold weather can cause a weapon to jam or mis-fire.

Important Safety Hint When Shooting:
Have a spare Empty Magazine in case you need to pull the slide back and lock it in place. I usually have a 5 or 10 round Mag on hand for this use.
Most Common Jamming Issues in a Semi Auto Firearm:

Here are the STEPS to Clear a Jammed Round:
1) Make sure the firearm is safely pointed away from you or anyone else.
2) Take the Loaded Magazine out.
3) Put the Empty Magazine in.
4) Pull the Slide Back till it locks in place. This should eject the round but if it doesn't reach in and pull it out with your fingers.
5) If the Round Ejects okay, check the firearm for damage, look at the chamber and ejection port.
6) Put the Empty Magazine back in, clear the slide action a few times.
7) Now put the loaded magazine in and feed one round and manually eject it. If it functions okay you are ready to shoot. If it jams again see the most common causes of jamming listed above.

Here are the STEPS to Clear a Stuck Round in the Chamber:
1) Make sure the firearm is safely pointed away from you or anyone else.
2)Take the Loaded Magazine out.
3) Put the Empty Magazine in.
4) Pull the Slide back till it locks in place.
5) Remove the Empty Magazine.
6) Using a piece of Wood (NO Metal) gently shove it through the end of the barrel. This should push the round out safely. If it does not, stop using the firearm and take it to a gunsmith. Do NOT place any magazine back in the firearm and do NOT release the slide and close the gun.

To CLEAR a Stuck Round in the Chamber always use wood, I recommend a Wood Dowel, these can be purchased from Home Depot; or you can use a Chinese Bamboo Chopstick, see my homemade video below:

My Glock Model 30, 45 ACP with Lone Wolf Barrel shown in this homemade video ....
You should get a dowel rod according to your caliber diameter. I have one for my AR15 which works on all my 22's; this one that works on my 45LC and 45ACP; and I have one for my three 9mm handguns.

Never Ever use any type of Metal to clear a round stuck in the chamber including:
1) A Cleaning Rod.
2) A Wire Brush.
3) An Ice Pick.
4) A Screw Driver.
