Firearm Forum Question: Lever Action Shotguns

Ask A Firearms Question:
I saw you had a Topic posted about Lever Action Rifles, how about doing one on Lever Action Shotguns?
Thank you Clearance Beaks.

The Winchester 1887 Lever Action 10-Gauge Shotgun: This is where it all began and most of the lever action shotguns made today are clones of this Winchester patent. This shotgun was made famous in the movie Terminator 2 with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Coyote Cap Model 1997 Lever Action 12-Gauge Shotgun, a follow-up to the IAC-Norinco Clone:
The Hoss Armaments Co Bonecrusher 12-Guage Lever Action Shotgun, latest in design of a Lever Action Shotgun:
IAC-Norinco 12-Gauge 1887 Lever Action Shotgun, the original Winchester clone but in 12-Gauge, others soon would follow as shown:

As requested - Above, I have included some typical Lever Action Shotguns and styles by various Manufacturers.
Winchester was the patent holder and creator of the Lever Action Shotgun, but it was in 10 Gauge. The clones that followed were mostly in 12 Gauge 2 3/4-inch shotgun shells.
I own a IAC-Norinco Lever Action 12 Gauge, many of the less expensive shotgun ammunition will cause it to jam, example: Olin (yes, Winchester, the same company that had the M-22 Ammo in 22 Caliber LR Recall).
The Chiappa is suppose to be high quality, although I have never seen one. But they are quite pricy. Coyote Cap no longer makes one but their lever action was high quality with no jamming.
Yes you can legally hunt with these like any other shotgun. Most were made for Cowboy SASS Shooting and Home Defense.

  1. I won the Rossi Circuit Judge it shoots 410 shotgun shells and 45 long colt handgun ammo. It's okay but I should have spent my money on the Chiappa clone. I had a Norinco but mine jammed all the damn time so I sold it, made $200.00.

  2. I'll be dammed if I gonna spend nearly $1,400.00 on a Chiappa model lever action Winchester clones. I own a IAC-Norinco Lever Action, bought it for $420.00 new in box, bot one that didn't jam, yes I was lucky.
So that everyone knows, Norinco is the largest arms manufacturer in China. IAC was the legal importer for Norinco firearms. IAC got caught by the ATF in some shady doings so they were put out of business and Norinco firearms have been banned for import into the USA ever since.
The average cost of the Norinco 12 Gauge Lever Action shotgun used is about $650.00 now.

  6. Wow oh wow I concur must look into that Hoss Armaments BoneCrusher 12 Gauge unique lever action shotgun.
By the way, I own a Norinco Gen 2, 12-Gauge Lever Action. They are restricted to 2 3/4 inch shot shells. That shotgun has a heavy recoil and is very loud. Ear protection is highly recommended. Mine sometimes jams but with cheaper ammo. I also recommend getting a heavy duty double pad rubber recoil pad installed, 10 rounds from the metal but plate and your shoulder will be hurting.

  7. great site , i hv a chiappa lever action shotgun , no jams , but not worth the money .

  8. I also have a Norinco 12 gauge lever action cowboy shotgun. The generation 2 tried to fix the jamming but some models out of the box still jammed anyway. The fact remains Norinco firearms built anything is pretty much junk.

  9. I was lucky enough to get one of the Coyote Cap Models, I paid around $675.00 for it. I agree that the Chiappa is way to expensive for what you get.

  13. i have a 45-90 lever action rifle and reload my own ammo. i love my lever action 45-90 and have used it for big game hunting including moose and grizzly bear. i use a dillion reloading press for all my reloading needs.

  14. I bought the Chiappa Lever Action 12 Gauge it is not worth the money. This shotgun should be half the price. The quality is not very good and the distributors in the USA are limited driving the price through the roof.
