Lately I have had a few misfired bullets in my hunting rifle. The ammunition is new, most fire but some wont. What is causing this to happen?

This can be dangerous because the primer has been partially depressed but apparently not enough to discharge the weapon and expel the bullet. There are several things that may cause this to happen such as: The firing pin is damaged or bent; the weapon is experiencing a hang fire; If the ammo is a reload it was done improperly; or, the ammo may have gotten wet. I strongly suggest you take this rifle to a gunsmith for evaluation and repair.
